Ah to sleep...perchance to dream...

It's 3am on Thursday morning. Bronwyn, me and my newest little cool gadget, my Eee PC, are sitting in the quiet, dark den keeping each other company on yet another sleepless night.

What a week this has been. Seriously... I never could have imagined. It started last Friday when I realized I was coming down with my first cold of this winter season -- and what a doozie it's turned out to be. It has now kept me up or 4 of the last 7 nights with 3 or less hours of sleep a night. On Tuesday night, I was working late when I got a call that my boss had been in a serious car accident. I spent hours that night driving around trying to find where her car had been towed to get her personal items and client files out of it. I was able to speak with my boss moments after the accident so I knew she was ok, but when I finally saw the mangled remains of her car, I realized that she was one mighty lucky lady and that had she been driving a smaller car, the evenings events would have been much more tragic. Her car is a total loss,, but other than a few scrapes and bruises an d being VERY stiff, my boss is otherwise ok. She is laying low for a few days to recover.

Wednesday was Quinn's 5th birthday and my only night this week that I would have time to finish packing for Las Vegas. Well, by the time I got home from work, I was so tired it was all I could do to change out of my work clothes. I did manage to cook her, Monty & Toby a stew of chicken thighs, green beans & egg noodles for dinner.

Here is a photo of the birthday girl waiting patiently for her special supper. As a point of interest, while the dogs enjoyed their delectable supper, Darryl and I dined on kraft dinner and nuked hot dogs. :o/

So, here it is, just into the early hours of Thursday...only a little past hump day, and already I'm ready for this week to be over, I still have so much packing to do to get ready to leave for Vegas early Saturday. Today is my birth mom's birthday and I promised I would take her out for coffee this evening, I also have an appointment to have the oil changed in the van as it's looong overdue. Tomorrow, I''m taking Darryl out for dinner before I have to leave him for a week which I'm so not looking forward to (being apart for a week, not the dinner) and things at the office aren't going well either not even taking into account the accident.

It's now 3:40am and I'm going to try to get some sleep. The coughing has let up and the headache that originally woke me has eased somewhat.

My Eee PC and I are going to attempt to faithfully blog each day from Vegas with photos, so I will be back soon with more news.

Until then, or my next sleepless night, bon soir, mes amis.

TESTING....TESTING...Is this thing on?

In preparation for my trip to Las Vegas for the International RE/Max Convention (I leave in one week from today!), I treated myself to a new "toy" last night - an Eee PC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_PC

I got the cadillac version with all the bells and whistles and it was still only $400CDN!

Within minutes of taking it out of the box last night, I was surfing online via the wireless modem (I also discovered that there are at least 2 neighbours with wireless internet as I had 3 choices for logging on wirelessly).

At only 2 lbs and tiny enough to slip into my purse, I'm far more excited about taking this to vegas than the 50 lb toshiba ancient notebook we have at the office! This will also allow me now to take my Rebel camera as I can fit both in carry-on; something that was impossible when I was going to take the toshiba.

Although small, the keyboard is easy to navigate with only a small learning curve with respect to the function keys, which are sensible and clearly marked.

The touchpad is responsive and easy to use.

It has an integrated webcam, 2 stereo speakers built-in on either side of the 7" colour monitor which produce surprisingly good sound. There is also a jack for external speakers should you require fuller sound when you are gaming or watching movies.

There are ports for ethernet & phone connectivity, microphone & external speakers, 1 firewire port and 2 usb ports, a serial port for a monitor, should you feel you need a larger display, and a 7 in 1 flash card reader, which I'm going to test now.

Yes, it works. The webcam also works, but I'm not posting what it's seeing this morning. Scarma!

Overall, I'm immensely impressed with my purchase, which later today will have an upgrade to 2 gb internal memory and also has 8gb external via a compact flash card.

Kudos to the Eee PC; Easy to Learn, Easy to work, Easy to play!
